Beautiful sunny days are upon on and the kids are burning off all their energy outside, but all of this fun in the sun is thirsty work!Nothing beats a cold, refreshing drink in the sunshine and we’ve got fourteen delicious summer drink recipes that are sure to put a smile on the kid’s faces.1.Watermelon & Strawberry SlushiesThese iced fruit slushies are the perfect way to cool down on a hot summers day.You’ll Need: 1 small watermelon, 225g punnet of ripe strawberries (tops cut off) and juice of 2 limes. Serves 6.Method: Start by cutting the watermelon into chunks, removing the skin and seeds. Place half of the watermelon into a freezer bag and freeze for a couple of hours until its frozen. Then, simply whizz up all of the ingredients together in a blender until you have a slushy consistency, pour into cups and serve with a straw!Recipe from BBC Good Food.2.Carrot & Orange JuicePacked full of vitamins A and C this juice is a great way to sneak in some goodness to your child’s diet.You’ll need: 8 carrots, 1 orange and a juicer.Method: Start by topping and tailing the carrots and giving them a quick wash. Then, cut the rind off the orange as this can be a little bitter. Pop everything into your juicer and your juice is ready to be served over ice.3.Chia Fruit Energy DrinkStay hydrated with this yummy chia seed and fruit-infused energy drink.You’ll need: 1 large jar, still water, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 2 slices of lemon, 2 slices of lime and a handful of strawberries - washed and halved.Method: Start by pouring the chia seeds into your jar then fill it 3/4 with water. Pop your lemon and lime slices and strawberries into your jar, put the lid on and give it a shake. Pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes to cool and then its ready to be served. You can serve this drink straight out of the jar with a straw.4.Refreshing Pineapple CoolerCool off with this delicious sugar-free pineapple cooler.You’ll need: 1 small/medium pineapple - cored, rind taken off and cubed. 250ml water, 1 tsp almond extract and juice of 1/2 a lemon (optional).Method: Pour all of the ingredients into a blender and whizz them up until you’re happy with the consistency. If you want a slushy drink then use a combination of ice and water!5.Rainbow WaterKids will love their rainbow fruit-filled bottles.You’ll need: A couple of strawberries - tops off and halved, a slice of orange, a few chunks of pineapple, 1 slice of kiwi and a handful of blueberries and raspberries.Method: Wash your fruits then pop them into your child’s bottle or flask. Fill with cold water and pop it in the fridge to infuse for 10 minutes. You can continue to refill the fruit-filled bottle all day long - just re-fill and pop it in the fridge each time to keep the water chilled and the fruit fresh.6.Orange & Strawberry JuiceSuper-simple to make and deliciously refreshing, this orange and strawberry juice is perfect for a hot summers day.You’ll need: 2 oranges, 4-5 strawberries, 4-5 ice cubes, 2 tsp sugar, 700ml of water, 1/2 tsp shredded ginger.Method: Start by preparing the fruit. Wash and hull the strawberries and roughly chop. Peel the oranges and separate into segments then pop them together into a blender. Add in all of the ingredients and give it a good blitz until it’s all blended. Run the mixture through a strainer to get rid of any solid bits then your refreshing juice is ready to be served!7.CherryadeQuench their thirst with a glass of homemade cherryade.You’ll need: 225g fresh ripe cherries, 600ml boiling water, 1 lime peeled and 1/4 juiced, 50g caster sugar and some sparkling water to dilute.Method: Start by washing the cherries, then discard the stalks and cut them in half to remove the stones. Pour them into a large bowl and press them slightly with the back of a spoon to get the juices flowing. Pour the boiling water over the cherries and give them a good stir. Peel the lime and cut it into quarters. Pop two pieces of lime peel and the lime juice to your bowl. Add the sugar and give it a good stir until all of the sugar has dissolved. Cover and allow to stand for two hours. After standing, strain the mixture and pour into a cup, then top with sparkling water to your desired taste.Recipe from Good To Know.8.Cloudy Lemon & LimeadeThis citrus fruit lemonade is the perfect drink to keep the kids cool in the sun.You’ll need: 6 lemons, 2 limes and 200g sugar.Method: Peel the lemons and limes and pop the peel into a large jug. Juice the lemons and limes and pour the juice into the jug along with the sugar. Pour over 2 1/2 pints of boiling water, stir and allow to stand and cool. Once its cooled transfer to the fridge to chill. Sieve the contents into a large serving jug and your cloudy lemon and limeade is ready to be served over ice.9.Strawberry & Apple JuiceFull of vitamin C and antioxidants this drink is sure to quench the kids’ thirst on hot summer days.You’ll need: 400g strawberries, 1 big apple and water.Method: wash and hull the strawberries then pop them into your blender. Peel and core the apple and add this to the blender with some water. Blitz them until you have a smooth consistency, keep adding a little water if you need to. Serve with ice.10.Strawberry MilkshakeWho doesn’t love a milkshake?! A great way to cool down and stay hydrated.You’ll need: 225g strawberries hulled, 300ml cold milk and 3 large scoops of vanilla ice cream.Method: Pour all of the ingredients together into a blender and whizz them up until you have a creamy consistency. Pour into glasses and your cool, refreshing strawberry milkshake is ready to enjoy.11.Citrus Fruit Infused WaterSpice up the kids’ water bottles with some citrus fruits.You’ll need: 1/2 small orange, 1 round slice lemon and 1 round slice lime.Method: Cut the orange into wedges and pop it into a bottle or flask along with the lemon and lime slices. Fill with cold water and pop it in the fridge to infuse for ten minutes. You can continue to refill the fruit-filled bottle all day long - just re-fill and pop it in the fridge each time to keep the water chilled and the fruit fresh.12.Banana SmoothieThis banana smoothie is not only delicious but it’s super healthy too!You’ll need: 1 banana, a pinch of nutmeg, 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract, 1 cup of milk and 2 cups of crushed ice.Method: Simply pour all of your ingredients into a blender and whiz them up to make your delicious smoothie.13.Easy LemonadeNothing beats homemade lemonade in the sunshine. Try this simple recipe and you’ll have the perfect refreshing drink that the whole family can enjoy.You’ll need: 3 unwaxed lemons roughly chopped, 140g caster sugar and 1l cold waterMethod: Pour the lemons and half of the water into a blender and whizz up until the lemon is finely chopped. Pour the mixture into a sieve over a large bowl and push the juice through. Pour the juice into a jug and top up with the remaining water. Serve your fresh lemonade over ice.Recipe from BBC Good Food.14.Cucumber JuiceRefreshing and hydrating, this is a great sugar-free drink to try.You’ll need: 1.4l water, 2 cucumbers, 1 lemon juice and zest and 2 tablespoons fresh mint.Method: Peel and top and tail the cucumbers, then roughly chop. Pop them into a blender with the water, lemon zest, lemon juice and mint. Blend them for two to three minutes until smooth.
