It was among the last of the big museums to reveal its cards, but the British Museum has now announced its date for reopening. The world-famous museum, in Bloomsbury, London, will welcome visitors once more from Thursday 27 August. The museum is a popular attraction with families. It displays artefacts from many of the world’s great civilisations, though not everything will be available from the get-go. During the first few weeks of opening, visitors will be sticking to the ground floor. A on-way trail will take you through ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and Assyria, before exploring Africa, Mexico, North America and the Enlightenment gallery. Further galleries should open at a later date.While the number of galleries is limited, this could be a really good time to take a look around. Some of those ground floor rooms (ancient Egypt, we’re looking at you) can get very crowded, so this is an excellent chance to show your kids the treasures of the world without all the bustle. You might even get within photo-range of the Rosetta Stone!As with most other cultural attractions, you’ll need to prebook your time slot in advance. Tickets will remain free, however.Doors will open from 10am to 3pm on the 27-28 August (Bank Holiday weekend), moving to 10am-5pm from Saturday 29 August. And don’t forget the face mask!
