Place that above the other large cake.2) Cut one cupcake in half and use either side as ears for your Super Mario face and place one cupcake in the middle of the face to form your Super Mario nose. Stick the cupcakes down using your buttercream.3) Cover your entire birthday cake in chocolate buttercream and then roll out your skin colour fondant until it is bigger than your cake.4) Whilst the birthday cake is still wet drape over the skin colour fondant whilst gently smoothing it down and then trim away any excess.5) Print off a template of Mario’s face and then cut and roll out the coloured fondant accordingly and place on his face. How To Make A Super Mario Cake TopperIf you don’t feel like making Mario from scratch, another simple but still effective way of customising your Super Mario birthday cake is by making your very own cake topper for your Super Mario cakes! You’ll Need: Ready to roll red and white fondant, squeezy black icing and a little water.1) Firstly, print out a template of Mario’s red hat ( you should be able to find one online) and then blow it up to a similar size of the cake (we recommend around 15cm).2) Then using the template, lay the coloured fondant on top and carve out the individual shapes.3) After you’ve got all your individual components of Mario’s hat, stick them down on top of your cake.4) Once your Mario hat is firmly stuck down, you could even go round it with some squeezy black icing, outlining it to make it look super animated and cool! And there you have it, your very own Mario figure made of fondant!Tips And RecommendationsIf you don’t have any coloured fondant to hand, you could always use buttercream on your Super Mario cake. Follow the same recipe, just without the cocoa and added food colouring! If you would like to make a vegan or gluten-free version of this Mario birthday cake, you could always swap out butter for a vegan friendly spread and flour for gluten-free flours such as almond flour. You can also freeze this cake for up to a month. Cut the cake into portioned slices before freezing, that way, it’s really easy to take a few slices out of the freezer and defrost them as opposed to defrosting the entire rest of the cake!
