Preheat the oven to 180C/ Gas Mark 4.2. Spray the insides of each cake tray with non-stick spray and line with grease-proof paper circles.3. Put the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a mixing bowl and stir.4. Add the butter bit by bit.5. Now mix in the vanilla extract.6. Continue mixing as you gradually add the milk.7. Do the same with the eggs, adding them one by one.8. Whisk the mixture until it is smooth, then divide the cake mix equally into the three cake tins.9. Bake the cakes for 30-35 minutes, or until they have risen and are golden brown. To make sure they are fully cooked, insert a skewer into the middle of each cake; it will come out clean if the cakes are cooked.10. Put them on a cooling rack and leave until they are completely cool.11. To make the buttercream icing, start by creaming the butter until it is very fluffy. Slowly add in the sugar, followed by the cream and vanilla extract, and beat until the mixture is smooth. Now mix in the gel food colour a bit at a time until your buttercream is the perfect shade of Paw Patrol blue.12. Take one of the cooled cakes, spread a thin layer of buttercream on the bottom, and stick it to the cake board.13. Use thicker layers of buttercream to attach the other two cakes on top.14. Use a sharp knife to cut a large hole out of the centre of the top cake. This is best done once the three layers are stuck together, to prevent the top cake from breaking.15. Cover the layer cake with buttercream icing.16. Fill the hole at the top of the cake with Nesquik cereal.Image © Life in Pixels under a creative commons licence.17. Use the ready-to-roll icing to make a large Paw Patrol logo. If you have the correct Paw Patrol cookie cutters then, once you have rolled out icing in the colours you need, cut out the shapes and stick them together using a tiny bit of water. Attach the finished logo to the front of the cake. If you don’t have the right cookie cutters, then print and cut out paper templates, place them onto the icing, and use a sharp knife to cut round them.18. Now cut paw prints out of the icing, using either cookie cutters or paper templates, and attach all around the cake.Tips And RecommendationsThe cake will taste just as good if you prefer to use vegan-friendly butter and gluten-free flour. The Nesquik cereal can be replaced with Maltesers, broken up chocolate cookies, or chocolate buttons. You can also use chocolate buttons to create the paw prints; place four standard buttons around a giant button to make a paw.If you don’t want to make a DIY Paw Patrol logo, pre-made edible Paw Patrol characters and logos are available to buy.
